the story of bonobo is one that has become uncommon in contemporary music. there was no sudden, viral internet sensation, no one-off big hit, no abrupt, accidental alignment with the zeitgeist. instead, over the course of four albums, myriad tours, singles, remixes and production work for other artists, he quietly but very definitely became one of the most important artists in electronic music. the hard work paid off, and culminated in 2010s black sands, a masterful album that married greens inimitable melodic genius and musicianship to bleeding edge electronics, bass and infectious drums.

away from the hypnotic mayhem of the floating roofscapes, we see fractured images cycling faster. just as clouds follow the wind, airy soundscapes track the low-end groundwork with grainy artifacts bursting in amongst the thick. lost in this surrounding ambience, the b side carves its way with a resonant materiality where shattering hi-hats pull you out of a hypnotic semi-dormant state. for uzuri 018 we return to one of our home grown artists – jitterbug. time has flown since his last release for us in 2010, but we have been quite eager to get some new material out from him for a while – and, based on feedback we have had, plenty of other people are keen to hear more from him too. both his raw winter and beaten trax eps were pretty popular releases for us and his dj appearances always create a stir, so we are pleased to bring you this, the arcane theory ep. the track sequencing on this record is pretty aggressive – front-loaded with the confrontational rise of the machines. a track that really lives up to its title, sounding like the production line at cyberdyne systems… all stomp and evil synths, like a bad mood e-dancer. fallout couldnt be further from that – relaxed and making no attempt at all to get in your face. itll win you over, though. just a nice, deep groove and a lovely, phased beat. could play it for hours… the whole of the flip is devoted to nomads, a chiming, acidic wander. nearly eleven minutes in length. the kicks never at the fore on this one – most of the action occurs at the mid and high frequencies – a resonant 303, lots of hi hats and, later, synths which expand on the eastern-flavour of the track title

our japanese dear friend hidenobu ito is definitely overwhelming and it seems almost comically out of place. from alien hydraulics to percussive steel fractals he allows to take shape within the realm of impossibility. so, what follows next on numbolic records is a stunning lesson in subtle buildup of sound design. theres a feeling of constant movement and shaky energy that means his music never quite stands still. highly resonant and rapidly-panning drum hits act like flickering fluorescent lights. the result is a heavily abstracted layering and perhaps our most sonically release to date. every sound, no matter how tiny, is endlessly tweaked and picked apart. the 12 inch ep is rounded off with 2 prickly re-interpretations. dualism turns up the fog with a super-deep captivating and yet lovingly version. while ditch comes up with a characteristic throbbing dirty techno rework. another 4 smashing tracks by hidenobu ito are added digitally as well as two bonus remixes. kai provides a dance floor-approved version and the hungarian newcomer as we said made a cartoon spaceship to the moon. big pulsating bass kicks will drive you in that particular head-space, but before accidentally killing someone in love, we suggest go get this record instead and start dance! be numbolic!

tony ollivierra begins 2011 by getting down with the machine sound. bordering on acid-funk, this ep really gets it shakin. the title track jericho, reeks of the latter days of disco with a deep bass line that fades in and takes control of the party. a warm synth chord then kicks in along with some strings which build up to a peak time climax. nag champa captures a deep and surreal groove with a sweet aromatic feel that definitely is burning. the dark bass line entangles the listener in a sensual moment while a resonant synth riff tops it off. on the flip, midi aura begins with an uncompromising synth bass line that does not quit. the sequence bubbles onward and a thick chord sweeps through the arrangement opening up into a placid apex of harmony. the aura of this midi is feel good all the way. lastly jack box, another acid track that works the cutoff and resonance into a climax of delightful poly rhythm and melody. jericho will be a very limited vinyl press and will be the final project on the ibex music label. keep your ears open for his next label venture which will be introduced this summer.

the titling for the second single taken from cari lekebuschs forthcoming album >state of the art<, continues in the horror tinged theme opening with the epic >bodysnatcher<, a nine and a half minute odyssey into the outer realms of rolling, glitchy techno. tight percussion and deep end bass set the tone for a fervent mix of resonant and modulated riffs and fx, exquisitely produced and deftly mixed this is another great example of lekebusch at his best.
the flipside of this release brings us the excellent >shivering<, a heady blend of oscillating bass and relentless synth lines over minimal drum patterns that has you hooked from the off. this is a big record that is bound to find favour with techno jocks and house djs alike with its perfect balance of dark and light.

bodo elsel has only done a handful of records and the two that i have known and loved since 1998 were put out on playhouse, the excellent housey sister-label of mighty klang elektronik. one track in particular, discount baby, has always stood out in my mind as a high water mark in the sacred art of groove (you may have heard of it). punchy accents and resonant bass layered with trippy vocal loops, its dubby acid house of the highest order, made by a mysterious german lego-master, who the a&r team of mike mind and thomas st shindig managed to coax back into activity.
it only took bodo a year to answer mr. minds email, but he eventually delivered three amazing tracks... >haustier< revitalizes piano house. >mai< is incredible, and >mein haus< is one of the top few all-time expressions of the greatness/meaning of germany, putting it in the fine company of the autobahn, sven väth and christmas-market schwein. nice wibes!!
the icing on the cake was that bodo made it very clear he wanted no part in royalties or any of that business crap... he just wanted 42 copies of the record. yes. 42.

aux-rec is being launched by airdrop records as an offshoot label designed with a specific mission in mind: to look back and pay tribute. aux-rec surveys musical history looking for those inspiring pieces of music (famous or forgotten) that carry a very distinctive groove and identity, and that offer the potential to be revisited in an ingenious contemporary way. at airdrop, we love music of all ages and of many genres! we feel aux-rec is a way for our artists and for us to pay our due respects to the origins and the evolution of contemporary dance music.
the existing airdrop roster of artists will be invited to contribute to aux-rec, but different artists will also be uncovered specifically for this project. off to a fresh start, franco cinelli and club rayo (a duo composed by rafael sorol and pablo terreil) engrave their long-time friendship on this record. franco cinellis first productions were released on the duos imprint club rayo disquets at the beginning of the millenium. the club rayo collective has been extremely active in the local argentinean scene for more than twelve years now.
going back to one of music historys greatest classics, >fever<, franco cinelli and club rayo bring their own interpretations to a theme that has known as many versions than people taking a sing at it in the shower! using ella fitzgeralds and elvis presleys voices, club rayo create repsectively the fitzgerald mix - a rocking dancefloor jam looping ellas fantastic voice bringing it to a culmination - and the king dub - a 118 bpm groove punctuated by elvis low-pitched and resonant tone. cuerdas is a short guitar instrumantal rendition of the fever theme. on his remix, franco cinelli creates a 10 minutes drum symphony, especially designed for the post-climatic hours. both producers kept in mind ellas famous quote when undertaking this great enterprise: >i stole everything i ever heard, but mostly i stole from the horns.<

excellent & deep masterpiece!! one of the more interesting newcomers of 2007, we are delighted to welcome a new ep by october, his first for perspectiv. having turned heads with three singles on his own label caravan, octobers organic techno cuts and thuds, adding an inherent physicality to his productions. a side title track >say again< revolves around a female vocal loop, fuzzing and throbbing with pulsed melodic tone, punching live percussion and deep bass line. a highly unconventional mix, this composition ties together effortlessly, peaking with a deep and droning wave of analog synth and popped beats. b side >go outside< is an after hours treat. a darker, deeper and altogether more ethereal work, stuttering beats are glued together with a warm prodded synth melody. to close, resonant percussion and phased keys submerge the track into a claustrophobic climax.

migration cinema is a new moniker of the sonic practitioner and composer el’as merino. grisaille, his release for e/c, adopts a varied approach to the pattern of emergence within merinoÕs work. these seven recordings present not only electronic, but mostly instrumental trajectories, whose densities are unfolded through a huge collection of music performers. migration cinema creates a situation for the musicians in which they navigate a resonant and responsive compositional space, while the space itself is treated as a plastic medium. * grisaille suggests an unconventional view of chamber and instrumental contemporary music from a culture alien in both space and time, heard through the filter or sieve of iannis xenakisÕ architectural and physical approach to sound. alternating between opacity and translucency, monochrome and colour, grisaille conjures a spectral palette reminiscent of fredrich cerha, but with an approach to instrumental hybridisation more reminiscent of the electroacoustic worlds of ana maria avram and iancu dumitrescu. * grisaille was written, recorded, and produced by el’as merino between 2013 and 2016 in spain and england, and includes across its seven tracks more than 24 performers and a student choir. all the instrumentation has been written, scored and orchestrated through computer music methodologies such as algorithmic and generative systems. grisaille swims into hybrid spaces from acoustic reverberations captured by the artist itself at notre dame (paris, france), basilica di sant eustachio, (rome, italy), and eglise st. laurent, (marseilles, france).
